On this episode of the Communitas Podcast, Geoff speaks with author, New Testament theologian, and blogger Andrew Perriman in Bobbio Pellice, Italy. Topics include communicating the Gospel in a post-Christian culture, the theology of mission, and comparisons/differences in the church in Europe and North America.
You can connect with Andrew through his blog: https://www.postost.net
Andrew's books are available on Andrew Perriman on Amazon.
About Andrew
My name is Andrew Perriman. My wife, Belinda, and I have lived in various parts of the world over the last 30 years: the Far East, Africa, the Middle East, the Netherlands, and now London.
I’ve combined theological studies and writing with pastoral and missional work in a wide range of contexts. I have a degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford and an MPhil and PhD from the London School of Theology, of which I am an Associate Research Fellow. I teach New Testament occasionally, and I am an extension studies tutor and examiner for LST’s MA in Aspects and Implications of Biblical Interpretation.
My overriding theological interest at the moment is in how we retell the biblical story as we negotiate the difficult transition from the centre to the margins of our culture following the collapse of Western Christendom.
For an introduction to this site see The narrative premise of a post-Christendom theology.
In addition to some articles in academic journals, I have written Speaking of Women: Interpreting Paul (IVP, 1998); Faith, Health and Prosperity: A Report on “Word of Faith” and “Positive Confession” Theologies (Paternoster, 2003); The Coming of the Son of Man: New Testament Eschatology for an Emerging Church(Paternoster, 2005; reprinted by Wipf & Stock); Re: Mission: A Vision of Hope for a Post-Eschatological Church (Paternoster, 2008); The Future of the People of God: Reading Romans Before and After Western Christendom (Wipf & Stock, 2010); and End of Story: Same-Sex Relationships and the Narratives of Evangelical Mission (Wipf & Stock, 2019). I also published a collection of blog posts on hell and heaven called Hell and Heaven in Narrative Perspective (2012).
I am involved with Communitas International, a wonderful organization that seeks to develop open, passionate, creative communities of missional faith. I should stress, though, that the views expressed on this blog do not necessarily coincide with the position of Communitas International on the matters discussed.

On this episode Geoff sits with Rodney Wright for a conversation on human sexuality, the church, and life transformation.
From Rodney Wright:
I wanted to send you some information and links to see more of what my wife Traci and I are doing to help educate faith communities, parents, and organizations in the area of healthy sexuality.
Our primary focus is twofold: To create a positive and healthy framework to see and understand our human sexuality as good, as well as lowering shame regarding the area of sexual brokenness and addiction.
We do this by:
Speaking for churches and organizations
Leading trainings and retreats for parents, adults and faith communities on how to help our kids understand about their sexuality
Our book How to Talk with Your Kids About Sex was recently published by Pure Desire Ministries, and is their primary resource for parents and leaders who are educating children. It is designed to be used by individuals, couples, or small groups, and includes questions, tools, and application.

The Dynamic Adventure: A Guide to Starting and Shaping Missional Churches
Daniel Steigerwald
Strengths: Achiever, Intellection, Maximizer, Input, Futurist
Passion: I come alongside innovative leaders to help them:
lead with integrity, humility, wisdom and compassion
imagine grand -but reasonable- possibilities
make better, values-based decisions
deliver more satisfying, team-orchestrated results.
For 30+ years, I have served in various leadership capacities - from leading teams to start new expressions of faith community, to pastoring, to leading at senior levels in both national and international Christian non-profits. My wife, Ann, and I spent the brunt of those years in Europe, and we count it a great blessing to have raised our daughters in The Netherlands.
From this long journey in ministry, I have acquired a good grasp of what it’s like to follow Christ into the complexities, heartaches and joys of servant leadership. I know how energizing and satisfying it feels to lead teams well. And I know equally well how frightening it is to skirt the edges of burnout and depression. In all my own stumbling forward, I’m convinced that God values our formation as leaders as much as what we accomplish in Jesus’ name. The Spirit of God journeys alongside us, offering us the graces we need to endure and grow, even in the most harrowing of seasons. And more often than not, these graces come in the form or others who’ve walked the long leadership road before us.
This is precisely why I choose to spend my time, vocationally, coming alongside those called to lead. I want to be an agent of grace to help leaders flourish and accomplish all that God and life have for them! One significant way I do that is through professional coaching.1 In a coaching relationship I am able to partner with team leaders to bring out their best - enhancing their awareness, decision-making, and alignment with stated values, goals, priorities, and desired vocational outcomes. At present, I have logged well over 1000 hours coaching innovative and pioneering leaders. I’ve also led various coaching teams, and have recently, in partnership with Fuller Seminary and Cyclical Inc., designed an accredited Master’s level church planter coach Certificate program (https://churchplanting.fuller.edu/coaching-certificate/).
Educationally, I hold a Doctor of Ministry (DMIN) in Leadership in the Emerging Culture as well as a Master of Divinity (MDIV). Drawing on that education and on my experience designing developmental trainings, I’ve authored four practical books around which I mentor, coach, and train: 10 Pitfalls in Starting New Churches: Avoiding Hazards on the Way to Health (2020); Dynamic Adventure: A Guide to Starting and Shaping Missional Churches (2018); Growing Local Missionaries: Equipping Churches to Sow Shalom in Their Own Cultural Backyard (2014); Grow Where You’re Planted: Collected Stories on the Hallmarks of Maturing Church (2013).
I am credentialled under the International Coach Federation (ICF) at a PCC level.Senior Partner - Artesia Resourcing LLC (https://artesiaresourcing.com/) cell: 503-432-1825
